KITA – The House of Kinetic Arts is a special contemporary art gallery in Joutsa, Central Finland. The Kitagalleria, which has been operating since 2022, is located right beside E75 highway, which has a direct Onnibus connection to both southern and northern Finland. The main activity of the house is the annual summer exhibition and surrounding activities and events.

THE SPIRIT OF THE HOUSE

At KITA – art, science and mysticism intertwine into a fascinating fabric of movement-based installations and spatial art. The gallery brings together open-minded artists from Finland and abroad for annual summer exhibitions and other events.

ORGANIZATION

The background organization of KITA is the non-profit art association Kinobox ry, which – in addition to Kita, organizes cultural events and activities. The activities of Kinobox are decided by a three-member board, chaired by Tuomo Vuoteenoma, the artistic director of Kita 2026. All possible sales proceeds from Kinobox are used to cover expenses incurred from the artist-led association’s art exhibitions and events.

PRINCIPLES OF A SAFE SPACE

No one is discriminated in the building and surroundings. All kinds of bullying, harrasment and thoughtlessness are prohibited.

ACCESSIBILITY

KITA is fundamentally a challenging building for barrier-free accessibility. People with reduced mobility can reach the first floor of the building with an assistant, where there are ramps. Access to the second floor is limited by fairly steep stairs. By summer 2026, we are making improvements to the building’s barrier-free and accessibility.
